Here is a selection of recordings that have survived throughout the years. We did not have the capability to record and preserve audio & video as we do today. Many of these sound bytes were recorded on a handheld cassette recorder that was placed somewhere in the audience. Although the recording quality may not be the best, the wonderful memories are priceless.
I played trumpet most of the time, but I was also asked to direct the final two numbers (bottom of playlist) of a 1983 joint concert with New York City's Big Apple Band and DC's Different Drummers ... of course, I chose a trumpet number (Chuck Mangione's Land of Make Believe) and followed it up with my favorite march from my Marine Corps days (Sousa's Washington Post March).
This concert was my 'swan song.' At the time, I was working in human resources and did not have much time for practice. I decided to stop playing my trumpet at a point when I played pretty well ... I did not want to have to say someday, "Well, I used to be good."
PS - We could use help with some of the music titles if you know them.
