ARTWORKS OF LOIS MERRILL, on display from May 4-31, 2019 @artsNCT, Newcomerstown.

Artist Reception and Preview, Saturday, May 4, 2-4 pm.
Free and open to the public.

ABOUT LOIS

Lois Merrill was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She moved here with her husband, Dr. Timothy Merrill, in 1980 to start his dental practice.

They have two sons, Joe and Rich, who both graduated from Newcomerstown High School and are college graduates.

Tim recently retired from his dental practice. Joe lives in Columbus working for the City of Columbus. Rich lives in Delaware, Ohio and works as a radiology medic tech.

Lois is a nurse and art therapist and works for Hospice of Guernsey, Inc. doing reflexology and art therapy.

“I’ve always liked being creative from gardening, sewing, painting, jewelry, and pottery,” Lois said. “I only started to paint seriously about 20 years ago. Lately I’ve been making pottery, wind chimes, crystal sun catchers, and oil paintings. I’m also doing a weaving workshop and stepping memory stones for the bereaved at the hospice.”

“I think of the creative arts, like music, dance, poetry, art, and drama, as healing. They help us express what words sometimes cannot say, or when words are simply not enough. I like to think they bring out our joy; joy in life, love of nature, family, friends, and faith.”

“Sharing my paintings and art is sharing a part of me that I hope people will enjoy.”

Little Theatre Original Productions to perform at ARTSNCT

NEWCOMERSTOWN - “Tuscarawas County Tonight,” a hilarious new sketch comedy show, written and performed by Little Theatre Original Productions, will be presented at ARTSNCT, Newcomerstown’s new arts center, for a one night only performance.

Little Theatre Original Productions presents a run of only 6 to 8 shows annually from late April through June.

The talented group, headed by G. Shawn Clay, performs at nursing homes, civic clubs, etc. to entertain people that do not or cannot go to the theatre.

“We are proud to announce that ARTSNCT and the residents of Newcomerstown are one of the very lucky recipients to receive a performance of the group’s original comedy show,” said Michael Wise, the center’s executive director.

“The arts center and Little Theatre have joined forces for what we are hoping will be a very long and creative alliance,” Wise continued. “I, personally, was not introduced to Little Theatre until my high school Thespian troupe attended a performance of Cabaret. From that moment I was hooked and participated in Little Theatre shows until I went into the Marine Corps. I am hoping that at least one or two creative individuals will witness this performance and be hooked too.”

The show is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 6 pm. All tickets for the family-friendly show are being offered for only $6.

Wise said, “Where else can you enjoy this quality of entertainment for only $6?”

Tickets are on sale now at the arts center or by calling (740) 575-5710. Advance purchase is recommended. Seating is limited.

ARTSNCT is located at 304 South College Street, Newcomerstown. www.artsNCT.org
